22nd Sat 7:00pm KUNDUN (1998/129mins) Dir. Martin Scorsese. The film traces the life story of the 14th Dalai Lama from his childhood to the time when he had to make the heartbreaking decision, of whether to remain in Tibet and fight for his people or flee his homeland and avert almost certain death.
23rd Sun 7:00pm 10 QUESTIONS FOR THE DALAI LAMA (2006/85mins) Dir. Rick Ray. A filmmaker asks the Dalai Lama ten questions in an hour around which a story is woven - a journeyman's personal observations, the history of a government-in-exile and the wisdom of one of the premiere spiritual leaders of our time.
24th Mon 7:00pm SACRED SITES OF THE DALAI LAMA – A PILGRIMAGE IN TIBET ( 2006/76mins) Dir. Michael Wiese. Visits the sacred sites of the Dalai Lamas in Tibet - caves where the early Buddhist masters meditated, monasteries where the Dalai Lamas taught, and the lake of Lhamo Lhatso where every Dalai Lama had prophetic visions.
26th Wed 7:00pm HIMALAYA (2000/104mins) Dir. Eric Valli. Filmed over seven months in the forbidding Dolpo region of Nepal, it is a story of a generational struggle for the leadership of a tiny mountain village between its proud old chief and a headstrong young caravanner.
27th Thurs 7:00pm DESTROYER OF ILLUSION & SPIRIT OF TIBET (1986/57mins) Dir. Richard Kohn. Narrated by Richard Gere. A film on a secret Tibetan Buddhist ritual, the Mani Rimdu Festival, and the remarkable spiritual teacher who leads and preserves this centuries-old tradition, Trulshik Rinpoche.
28th Fri 7:00pm TIBET - CRY OF THE SNOW LION (2003/100mins) Dir. Tom Peosay. The dark secrets of Tibet's recent past are chronicled through personal stories and interviews, and a collection of undercover and archival images.
14th Fri 7:00pm FILM CLUB DISCUSSION Group meets to discuss The Cook The Thief, His Wife And Her Lover (1990/Eng/124mins) directed by Peter Greenaway with music by Michael Nyman. Film scholar Dilip Menon will introduce the film and facilitate the discussion.
