FILM CLUB DISCUSSION|Yes (USA/UK/2005/100 mins) An Irish-American woman, known only as 'She', trapped in a loveless marriage, begins a relationship with a Lebanese Man, 'He'. Their affair played out in London, Belfast, Beirut and written in rhyming verse by Sally Potter - who also composed the film's music - is the filmmaker's response to 9/11 and the subsequent demonising of the Arabic world and corresponding wave of hatred against America. Film scholar, Christine Gledhill (University Of Sunderland, UK) and currently, visiting faculty, School of Arts and Aesthetics, JNU will introduce the film and facilitate the discussion

FILM CLUB DISCUSSION| Opera Java (Indonesia/Austria, 2006/120 mins) the film is one of 6 feature films commissioned from beyond Europe in celebration of Mozart's 250th anniversary by the New Crowned Hope Festival which asked for responses to the themes of magic and transformation, truth and reconciliation, and ceremonies for the dead that inform Mozart's last three great works.
